Celebrating Canada Day with Mushrooms

It’s not often that we get to put the work-week on hold mid-week, but Canada’s 148th birthday is certainly a cause for celebration! Despite July 1st falling on a Wednesday, it seems every community is pulling together a pretty exciting lineup of fireworks, entertainment and food. It may be tough heading back to work on Thursday.
If you plan to relax at home on your day off, we can help! We’ve pulled together some delicious ways to incorporate mushrooms in your Canada Day celebrations.

Bring Canadian flavours to the party! Beef Mushroom Meatballs with Maple Dijon Sauce by Fox in the Kitchen are a no-brainer birthday snack.
Head straight to your own garden for some fresh tomatoes, onions and herbs! Grilled Portabella and Poblano Tacos by Crumb: A Food Blog are a great reason to stay outdoors.
There’s nothing quite like a barbecue featuring food-on-a-stick! Family Feedbag’s Turkey & Mushroom Skewers with Peanut Sauce are a healthy, yet indulgent treat for the whole family!
Finally, you can support all-things Canadian with some dazzling new recipes featuring local foods. Our new Celebrate Local eCookbook boasts 13 new and delicious recipes, including this Pulled Pork Mac n’ Cheese with Mushrooms featuring Ontario Pork and fresh Canadian Mushrooms. You could even try piling this pulled pork over some fries and curds for a very Canadian poutine!
