Local Food Week Recap & Our Celebrate Local eCookbook

In Ontario, we celebrated Local Food Week, June 1-7 and boy, did the week go by in a flash! We asked a few friends to share “what local means to you” and we had some wonderful responses from Heather of The Tasty Gardener, Louisa of Living Lou and from Mardi of eat. live. travel. write.

We also shared a local-centric post from Carole of The Yum Yum Factor and her recipe for Cheesy Mushroom, Ramp and Potato Gratin!


Early in the week, we got an invite to join Ontario Beef for lunch, as VG Meats pulled into town with their impressive food truck, complete with a functional meat counter!
We also got a sneak peak at the brand new Blend & Extend burgers from VG Meats, Portabella Mushroom Steak Burger, featuring Ontario beef and mushrooms! There was no way you could stop at one sample!!
Alongside Ontario Beef, we took part in the Foodland Ontario Fresh Farmers Market at Queens Park, Toronto. We had a beautiful day on the lawn of Queens Park serving up samples of mouthwatering Beef and Mushroom Blended Taco Cups topped with a Thai-inspired Salsa, adapted from one of our favourite recipes.
Even in all of this excitement, the crowning moment came from Wednesday night’s Twitter Party where were all set to release our brand new eCookbook! Through the combined efforts of many talented people, this wonderful collection of recipes came together in celebration of local food. We’d like to say a special thanks to Egg Farmers of Ontario, Chicken Farmers of Canada, Ontario Apple Growers, Ontario Beef, Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ Association, Ontario Lamb and Ontario Pork for joining us in this exciting endeavor.
