Eating Well for Swimsuit Season | Twitter Party

Being overweight can increase the risk of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Carrying excess weight can also put stress on joints causing pain and making it difficult to enjoy daily life. Eating more fruits and vegetables, including fresh mushrooms, is a tasty way to help you keep your weight in check.

Mushrooms Canada and HealthCastle.com want to help get you ready for swimsuit season. Join our Twitter Party next Wednesday, and let’s chat about ways to include fresh mushrooms as part of your Swimsuit Season  healthy eating plan.

A Celebration of Local Food

When I received the invite to attend the 3rd Annual Celebration of Local food at Queen’s Park in Toronto, my first thought was, “This is wonderful! Another event where we can create awareness around the importance of buying local food!” My next thought was naturally “I hope it doesn’t rain!”

We were all very lucky yesterday as we basked in the sunshine (something we have been lacking for the past month), and despite the sudden sweltering temperatures, hundreds of people came out and enjoyed the bountyful farmers market filled with local foods.

The Honourable Carol Mitchell opened the market promptly at 12:00pm, making a wonderful announement about how Ontario farmers work very hard to provide you with healthy and nutritious foods, and of course that “Good Things Grow In Ontario.

Owly Images

Every Ontario food, from peppers to ice cream, was there handling out delicious samples. My helper, Amanda and I, handed out fresh crimini mushrooms with spinach dip. Simple, yet very statisfying on this hot spring day.

At the end of the day the message was still clear, Good Things (Do) Grow in Ontario!
